"Terrible battery...not worth the money." 2009-08-21
By Jay (CA)
I purchased this battery 11/08. Got about 1.5hrs. of use for a few months. Now, less than a year later I'm lucky to get 30 minutes out of it. (My original Apple battery which is 2 1/2 years old still gives me at least 2 hrs of use on each charge.) It's not worth the savings.

"Bad Battery. Do not buy." 2008-12-17
By Stewart F. Strickland
Battery never charged properly. Followed seller's instructions to the letter. When it showed full charge, it would run down in a matter of minutes. Also, having difficulty with returns under the supposed 1 year warranty.

 "Save the screen" 2008-10-26
By Charles J. Sarchet (Seattle, WA USA)
Having seen a number of screen damaged due to normal wear, I have been rather fanatical about protecting mine. I purchased this as one way to protect the screen from becoming scratched. I've used this type of device on my goggles, PDAs and phones for years and I feel there worth the money if you have the patience to install them correctly. This one came with a plastic card which along with the direction help to ensure it was properly installed. At some point, you will want to replace it and this manufacturer unfortunately didn't provide instructions for that.

 "What's there to say?" 2009-09-26
By drady (san carlos, CA USA)
It works.

Holds a full charge.

Would've been 5 stars except for ...

Bought this as a replacement for the battery that came with my MacBook Pro.

After just 18-months, that battery puffed up, broke itself apart and almost damaged the MacBook Pro as well.

Question is: How long will this replacement battery live?

"17 in Mac Pro Battery" 2009-09-14
By Jane W. Akmentins (Daytona, FL)
My 17 in Macbook Pro laptop for $3000. has just had a second heated up battery, so for $129 I can keep running, this is an expensive toy for an old lady . I sat the old battery on a table in open box and it has opened up, what do I do

with it, cannot go in garbage. Does Apple collect these for safe disposal? I see Apple has now built in batteries how do

you replace them? Maybe Apple should get some USA batteries not Chinese.Maybe Apple needs to check these batteries

so to get rid of the problem. I love my laptop, it is my main machine but I had to buy a new cord, now new battery what next.?? I am 79 and pay bills, do email, do video family conferences and play games to keep brain alert but have to watch

my pocketbook so buy from Amazon they are the best on prices and service. please respond. Thank uou

"the battery opens when I'm working" 2009-04-13
By Josue Daniel Ochoa (Guatemala, Guatemala)
I just changed to mac, I allways used toshiba, dell, acer, but never before happends that a battery without any reasson opens, inflated and failed, I'm not charging the battery because the macbook was cord connected, and the battery was 100% charged.

The computer only has a little more than 1 year old, and the battery stills works between 1.30 to 2 hours without charging..... but when I call to Apple, they said that the warranty was expired.. so.. I have to buy another battery and expend because a bad manufacturing.

:(

 "EXREMELY DANGEROUS!!!" 2009-02-10
By Person- not expecting battery fluid
17 inch MacBook Pro. Battery dies, battery case warps. I take it out, holding it, trying to see where the "cover" must be to remove it from the battery and put it back on the computer. I call Apple. The woman who answers hears it is cracked and warns me NOT TO TOUCH IT. Have I been contaminated?? I CAN'T SAY. What??? IS IT LEAKING? Well, no, so is it safe? I CAN'T SAY. YOU SHOULD WASH YOUR HANDS IMMEDIATELY. Is the acid invisible? Are there dangerous fumes? Do I need to go to the emergency room?

Please. Is this acceptable? A battery that cracks open? Potentially leaking blinding acid? With my 3-year old standing nearby. I am on the phone, I set the battery down, trying to shoo my child away with my possibly acid-drenched hands in the air. As I am trying to find out if this "fluid" is visible or not. I am told it is a thick clear fluid, and I should be able to see it- but maybe not. How can I tell? I will feel a burning feeling. Immediately? Yes. Oh. Well.

This is Apple design? How many Apple users homes have children? Or people not expecting cracked batteries with DANGEROUS FLUID that can squirt out of a cracked battery case.

 "Battery Performance = Poor" 2008-08-05
By donsabai (Rogers, AR)
This is my third battery in 18 months. As far as I am concerned, this is unacceptable product performance. I do not expect APPLE to take into consideration any of the battery issues that are problematic with the MacBook Pro line.

  • Glossy 17-inch, 1920 by 1200 resolution, TFT widescreen display with NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor

Product Description

Stylishly and intelligently designed for mobile professionals, Apple's MacBook Pro gets a serious speed bump with the new, powerful Intel chipset (dubbed Santa Rosa), which provides a faster Core 2 Duo processor, longer battery life, and native support for 802.11n wireless connectivity. This model features a glossy 17-inch screen that provides a richer, more saturated feel for a more immersive viewing experience. It also offers a state-of-the art NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT video card for more realistic graphics for animation and gaming. This MacBook Pro is powered by the new 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo T7700 processor and 2 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 memory--the fastest portable computer memory currently on the market (June 2007). But some things haven't changed: the trademark stunning aluminum enclosure that's is just one-inch thin, built-in iSight video camera, and Apple's magnetically connected MagSafe power adapter, which safely disconnects when under strain.

This MacBook Pro measures just 1 inch thin and weighs 6.8 pounds.
Other hardware features include a 160 GB hard drive, 8x SuperDrive for burning multiple disc formats, built-in 10/100/1000 BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet for high-speed networking, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), a FireWire 800 and a FireWire 400 port, an ExpressCard/34 expansion card slot for expansion solutions such as 3G wireless networking, and a DVI video output.

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
The Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 processor has a 2.2 GHz processor speed, super-fast 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and an enormous 4 MB of Smart Cache, an L2 cache that can be shared between the cores as needed. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

The Intel Core 2 Duo's 128-bit SSE3 vector engine handles 128-bit computations in a single clock cycle, accelerating data manipulation by simultaneously applying a single instruction to multiple data. And its two execution cores are designed to share resources and conserve power, helping it to achieve higher levels of performance since it uses fewer watts

Get more screen real estate with the 17-inch screen, featuring a 1680-by-1050-pixel resolution.
Display and Graphics
The 17-inch widescreen TFT display offers a native resolution of 1680 x 1050 pixels and an antiglare widescreen display that's perfect for color-minded professionals. This version of the 17-inch MacBook Pro has a display backlit by light emitting diodes (LEDs), which gives it a lighter weight and more power efficiency than the cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) which most notebooks employ. It's also better for the environment, thanks to its new mercury-free display.

Video and graphics are powered by the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT card, which is boosted by 256 MB of GDDR3 SDRAM. GDDR3 (Graphics Double Data Rate, version 3) is a graphics card-specific memory technology that's better able to deliver fluid frame rates for even the most advanced games and applications. The GeForce 8600M GT brings a new level of realism to the MacBook Pro with its 16-lane PCI Express architecture, 16x full screen anti-aliasing, 128-bit High Dynamic Range rendering, and a texture fill rate of up to 8.2 billion per second.

Hard Drive and Memory
The 160 GB Serial-ATA (SATA) hard drive (5400 RPM) provides more than enough space to store business-related documents and presentations, as well as offers space for a large digital audio and video library. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0. The 2 GB of PC5300 DDR2 RAM (two SO-DIMMs of 1 GB) have an industry-leading 667 MHz speed, and the RAM capacity can be increased to a whopping 4 GB.

Wireless Connectivity
The built-in 802.11n wireless networking provides up to five times the performance and twice the range of 802.11g, but it's also backward-compatible with 802.11a/b/g routers, enabling you to communicate with the a wide variety of Wi-Fi resources. It works seamlessly with the new AirPort Extreme with 802.11n. Use the built-in Bluetooth wireless technology to connect to your PDA or cell phone, synchronize addresses, or download pictures from your cell phone. You can also use a wireless headset for iChat audio chats and VoIP calls as well as quickly share files with a colleague.

Video Conferencing with Built-in iSight
Artfully placed in the display bezel is an iSight camera, which enables easy video conferencing as well as allows you to snap pictures of yourself and create video podcasts. Using the iChat AV application, video conferencing is integrated into your iChat buddy list, so initiating a video conference is a breeze. iChat also lets you hold audio chats with up to 10 people and provides high-quality audio compression and full-duplex sound so conversation can flow naturally. For video podcasting, you can record a short clip using the iSight camera, then use iWeb to create a video blog entry or post your GarageBand-recorded podcast.

Apple Innovations

The magnetically connected MagSafe power adapter breaks cleanly away, without damage to either the cord or the MacBook Pro, if you trip over the cord..
The MacBook Pro is the culmination of years of refining hardware and software design to an integrated art. One of Apple's most celebrated innovations is the MagSafe power adapter connector with offers a magnetic connection instead of a physical one. So, if you happen to trip over a power cord, you won't send MacBook Pro flying off a table or desk--the cord simply disconnects, without damage to either the cord or the system. As an added nicety, this means less wear on the connectors.

Using two-fingered scrolling, you can easily scroll around your documents or open contextual menus with one hand.
The trackpad can tell if you've got one finger on the pedal, or two. With two, you can easily scroll around your documents or open contextual menus. When you need right-click functionality, simply open ÒKeyboard and MouseÓ in System Preferences and enable the secondary click preference.

The MacBook Pro has battery life that rivals most notebooks in its class. If you'd like to make that battery last even longer, Mac OS X has a few tricks up its sleeve. Go to System Preferences, click Energy Saver, and change battery optimization from Normal to Better Battery Life. Or tell MacBook Pro to reduce its screen brightness and give yourself a little more time untethered.

And with the included Apple Remote and Front Row software, you can show off your latest photos and access your iTunes music and playlists from across the room. You can also use it to watch downloaded movies and TV episodes as well as control playback of DVD movies. The Apple Remote features a minimalist six buttons--just press the Menu button to activate Front Row and begin to navigate through your media. You can even use the remote to control Keynote presentations in iWork '06.

"This version of the 17-inch MacBook Pro has a display backlit by light

I just checked with The Apple Store. Inquiring on the MacBook Pro 17" with LED display. And their response was, "THE 17" WITH BACKLIT LED HAS NOT BEEN ANNOUNCED AND IS NOT AVAILABLE".

Are you people inept, stupid ,,, or simply cunning LIARS ???

 "Fantasic Notebook!" 2007-09-30
By R. Peter Taliancich (Frisco, TX)
I've used notebooks from Dell and IBM for years and this is the first Apple Notebook I've used for my business. It feels great and runs fast. This notebook combined with VMWare's Fusion product is the perfect computer. I use the Windows OS for those applications that are only available in Windows (about 10%) and the Mac OS for everything else. The Operating System is intuitive and easy to use. I've never had trouble connecting to the wireless networks, printers or windows file servers. If you're looking for industrial strength notebook for your business this is it.

PCs are made for tech people.

And I am not.

I like clean design of computer and I like clean and simple app.

Expensive? Yes, so what?

I do not have to call computer geek to install new softwares or to update my OS.

I do not have the luxury to have time to understand why's and because's

This is my second apple notebook.

Excellent and indispensable.

"Excellent & invisible protection for the MacBook Pro!!" 2009-10-07
By R. Feltey (Raleigh, NC)
I don't think anyone who has used or seen my MBP lately has noticed that I have this Moshi palmguard on it! Well worth the $$ and the tact that holds it to the MBP doesn't firmly attach itself until you have it in place where you want it. You won't even notice that this guard is on as the color scheme matches perfectly.

The only con I have noticed so far is that the new 'protected' surface for the mouse track area isn't as smooth as the original, but no problems with functionality or moving the mouse pointer. It's more of a user adjustment than anything.

 "Just What I Wanted!" 2009-03-23
By R. C. Weingarten (Los Angeles, CA USA)
This is a review of the Apple Macbook Pro model MB766LL/A.

I've been shopping for a notebook for quite some time. There really is a lot of junk out there. Having used a Powerbook G4 and the first version of the Macbook Pro, I began to look into purchasing a Windows based notebook for Visual Studio development.

I tried the HP dv7t, a Dell XPS m1530 and a Sony FW390. The Sony was quite nice but Sony support tends to be a bit lacking. Sony also would not guarantee support for the upcoming Windows 7!

In spite of the negatives that I found with these products, my final decision to stay with the Apple line was due to the superior hardware that I was always aware of anyway. The multi-touch trackpad, the back-lit keyboard, bright 17" 1920x1200 LED panel, superior fit and finish, etc. All this and more just adds up to one superior product. And I have not even addressed the advantages of OSX Leopard and the upcoming Snow Leopard.

I briefly considered a Unibody MBP, but the price discount of roughly $1,000.00 for this unit and the awful glassy screens on the new ones made the choice very easy for me.

Oh, and I like a button on my trackpad too!

Apple: It's just works (well, almost - if you do what we tell you to, TM).

Pros:

System is light, looks cool, people think that you are sophisticated and rich.

Cons:

a) Overheating

If you need it for any real computing then get ready - system overheats.

Temperature of the GPU/CPU reaches over 170F - get external keyboard, or you will burn your hands.

b) Not Windows compatible

Apple is unable to produce quality drivers for their hardware.

System freezes after 2 hours of work.

For reference see forum: [...]

Sound drivers interfere with network card creating chipping sound.

b) Usability

New Mac Mousepad is unusable. Get ready to get an external mouse.

Bottom line - save yourself some time and money - get a different machine (and Ubuntu if you want to see really cool and reliable OS - believe me - much better USABLE and RELIABLE choice).

I'm returning this "brick".

"Review of the 17" Macbook Pro (Not the NEW 13/15" Macbooks)" 2008-11-21
By E. Stevenson (New Jersey)
This a review of the 17" Macbook Pro listed here, not the NEW 13/15" Macbooks with the total aluminum casings and new touchpads.

First off, instead of updating the Macbook Pro 17" like the 13/15", Apple decided to make some upgrades, like having upping the processor to 2.5 ghz Core Duo, 2 gigs of RAM to 4 gigs RAM, and the HD to 320 gigs.

The video card in this machine is the Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT with 512 megs of RAM--whereas the new 13/15" Macbooks have the 9600s.

The touchpad is NOT the new button-less touch-pad, but it still has the hand gestures.

The computer has a ambient light sensor that light up your keyboard in the dark and adjust the screen brightness in different lighting conditions. The monitor has a LED back-light, and the finish is glossy (You can the 17" screen with a matte finish, but you'll have to go to Apple for that). The screen is not the same as the new 13/15" ones.

Why did I get this one? I wanted the highest resolution of 1900x1200 because work with HD video and digital photography.

These reviews are all related to the 15" macbook pro, where is the 17" macbook pro review (4gb, antiglare, 2.5ghz, 17" screen, two firewire ports: 400 and 800, etc.)???

Product Description

The Intel Core Duo chip inside MacBook Pro gives you the power of two processors wherever you go. Now it's a breeze to render complex 3D models, enjoy smooth playback of 1080p HD video, or host a four-way videoconference. If you need to present to a group, or you'd like to just watch MacBook Pro from across your hotel room, you've got everything you need. With the Front Row interface and Apple Remote, you're free to sit or stand across the room and present photos, movies and music at the click of your remote.A full-scale iSight camera built at the top of the MacBook Pro's display means you're ready for video conferencing via iChat wherever you are - no cords or cameras to plug in or carry around.Mobile users will love the new MagSafe Power Adapter featuring a magnetic DC plug that both ensures a tight connection and enables a clean break from the power port when there is undue tension. It prevents the MacBook Pro from being pulled off of a desk when the cord is accidentally tripped over, and it protects the power cord from wear and tear.

From the Manufacturer

MacBook Pro is built on the revolutionary Intel Core 2 Duo — which packs the power of two processor cores (up to 2.33GHz) inside a single chip. It provides 4MB of Smart Cache, L2 cache that can be shared between the cores as needed. It delivers higher performance in 2D and 3D graphics, video editing, and music encoding. But the new engine is only part of the story. Ultimate speed, performance, and connectivity. To go. That's MacBook Pro.

MacBook Pro delivers the Front Row media experience, making it easy (and rather spectacular) to showcase your latest creations.
Packs power, not pounds
What makes MacBook Pro so mobile? Performance in a portable package. MacBook Pros are amongst the thinnest, lightest notebooks in their display class. These computers feature parts engineered to squeeze out every last joule of performance with meticulous placement for minimal size. The result? Ultra performance in a thin, light package.

In addition to superior design, MacBook Pro features a large scrolling trackpad for maximum control and a sudden motion sensor that parks the hard drive head during sudden changes in orientation. Throw in a backlit keyboard with an ambient light sensor and digital sound for music and movies, and you've got a portable workstation/entertainment machine that belongs on business trips and vacations.

Taking pictures of yourself on the road has never been more fun. Add a special image effect and save the image as your iChat buddy picture, email to your friends, put in your iPhoto library, or post to your iWeb photo blog.
iSight to behold
Sit down. Click someone's iChat icon. Video conference from anywhere in the world. Though you can barely see it, there's an iSight camera built into the thin bezel just above the display. So now you can conference with associates during the day and chat with the kids at night. iChat AV lets you video chat with up to three other people simultaneously. And when you go head to head, you'll see your colleagues clearly, at VGA resolution.

Moving Performance
The MacBook Pro sports a killer, high-resolution, non-glossy widescreen display up to 17 inches big, and it's ready for more than Web surfing and word processing. Why? Well, check out the not-so-subtle ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with up to 256MB of dedicated graphics memory. Designed for high-performance portables, this graphics powerhouse packs more punch into a much smaller space. The X1600 can push data through 12 pixel shader pipelines and five vertex processors on the 16-lane PCI Express bus interface. Enjoy sharp videos and photos, smooth video playback, astonishing effects, and vibrant colors — as well as texture-rich 3D performance in next-generation games.

Road Show
Whether you're at the client's office, on location, or back at your hotel room, just use the Apple Remote to control your videos, music, movies, and more. Front Row lets you quickly navigate through your work and play from anywhere in the room. You can even use the Apple Remote to navigate through Keynote presentations. MacBook Pros are also road ready with:

  • MagSafe Airline Adapter: Out of power in flight? Plug your MacBook Pro into the optional MagSafe Airline Adapter and get back to work (or play).
  • AirPort Express: MacBook Pro offers built-in wireless capability, and you can create your own wireless network with an AirPort Express.
  • Built-in Bluetooth: Connect wirelessly to Bluetooth-enabled peripherals or connect to the Internet via your mobile phone.
  • On display: Extend your desktop by connecting your MacBook Pro to a larger display or an HDTV via the DVI port or an optional video adapter.

The MagSafe Power Adapter is just that: a magnetic connection instead of a physical one. So tripping over a power cord won't send your shiny new MacBook flying off a table or desk; the cord simply breaks cleanly away, without damage to either the cord or the system. As an added nicety, this means less wear on the connectors.
Included Software
Mac OS X v.10.4 Tiger (includes Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat AV, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD Player, Xcode Developer Tools), iLife '06 (includes iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie HD, iDVD, iWeb, GarageBand), Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Test Drive, a 30-day trial of iWork '06, Comic Life, FileMaker Pro Trial, OmniOutliner, Photo Booth, and Front Row.

 "A great buy!" 2008-03-29
By marketminutedave (Toronto CA)
Am I ever glad I purchased this Macbook Pro from the Macbook Pro series. I was pretty well pleased, right off the bat. My main input is the speed of this baby & the Core 2 Duo makes everything run efficiently. no crashes. Beautiful display, a cinch to use and runs all good Multimedia programs well. You may have to upgrade to a 200GB drive. The only problem I would flaw with consideration of the higher Mac price is battery life.. it does lag a tiny bit. Other than that it uses energy efficiently, is great, and runs that wonderous Leopard OS amazing.

"The best portable on the market" 2008-02-22
By Nicholas Stehle (Little Rock, AR)
I've owned 11 Macs over the last 7 years, most of which I bought for family members. 4 of them have been my primary computers. During this time I've also used several Windows based PCs, as I work in a Windows only business. It is great to have a Mac that also does the work stuff. I haven't yet been able to find anything I don't like about this notebook, which is something I cannot say for any other computer I've ever owned (Mac included).

Here are the biggest pluses I can think of at the moment:

-Beautiful 17" widescreen with a resolution that is perfect for the size

-Leopard OS is simply beautiful and the easiest OS to use in the universe

-Plenty of Hard Drive space

-Plenty of RAM

-Fast processor, good video card

-802.11a/b/g/n

-HUGE trackpad (great for photo editing or network engineering layouts)

-Backlit keyboard makes typing in the dark a pleasure

-Less than one inch thin

-iSight built-in is perfect for my travels ... I can always see my wife and son (my wife has a MBP 15")

-Office 2008 is every bit as good as Office 2007 for Windows

-Spotlight, spotlight, spotlight! If you don't know what this is, Google it! :)

-Expose

-iWork 08 is nearly a replacement for Office 2008

-Scrolling built-in to trackpad

That's about it for now. I hope this has been helpful. This is the most perfect notebook I've used to date.

"Item received other than ordered" 2008-02-14

The Apple MacBook Pro was advertised as refurbished and with Microsoft Office. It did not contain Microsoft Office and had to be taken to an Apple service to be repaired. I returned it for credit two weeks ago and have not heard from Amazon.

 "Great Service and Item" 2007-12-26
By Toney Mack Gantt Jr.
Very Good Quality and I love the mac. Much better than a PC. Great item and service.

 "dangerous" 2007-09-09
By Michael R. Cinquanti (Catlin, NY)
This system is dangerous - you could start enjoying computing so much that you forget you are working. The attention to little details adds up to more than the sum of its parts. The keyboard is quiet, lights up, and feels good to use. The battery meter tells the truth and gives time remaining or left to charge, not some vague percentage. The system is not plagued by constant viruses and spyware. You can focus on getting your work done without the stressed out feeling of constantly battling your system or fearing that something will randomly blow up on you. While it takes some getting used to, the power user will discover that everything they need is there and they do not need to buy 10 other products to get the job done (all of which introduce performance and other problems). The bottom line is - at $200 a pop for a complete and stable OS on 5 systems, or $600 for unlimited server licenses, you save money on maintenance, filling in capability gaps, and grief counseling that you would spend on a PC. Parallels really does an excellent job running Windows if you need it. Unix is right there under the hood with robust, stable, well thought-out capabilities that do not compromise security or performance. You will enjoy it. Buy it. It isn't perfect, but you will appreciate the genuine quality and be glad you did.

Amazon.com Product Description

Stylishly and intelligently designed for mobile professionals, Apple's MacBook Pro gets a serious speed bump with the new, powerful Intel chipset (dubbed Santa Rosa), which provides a faster Core 2 Duo processor, longer battery life, and native support for 802.11n wireless connectivity. This model (MA897LL/A) also includes a TFT display measuring 17 inches and a state-of-the art NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT video card for more realistic graphics for animation and gaming.

The 17-inch widescreen TFT display offers a native resolution of 1680 x 1050 pixels and an antiglare widescreen display (non-glossy) that's perfect for color-minded professionals. Note that this is not an LED-backlit screen.

Don't have too many words for this but EXCELLENT.

Got it working with dual boot using Leopard and Win XP for a long while and it's simply excellent. Now I'm using Leopard and Win 7 Beta and it still works like a charm.

 "Fantastic Computer" 2008-12-26
By Rev. R. Windlinx
Windows Vista was the last straw so I went Mac hunting. I bought a MacBook Pro last May after using windows systems for years and years. Total frustrated by windows lack of processing simple jobs with out locking up and having to ctrl-alt-del or completely restart. The MacBook Pro was a little more than I wanted to spend, but after hours of convincing my wife I made the switch to Mac. It has been the best computer I have ever owned!

It is flawless in booting up and being ready to go.

Easy compatibility with my digital camera I did not even need to install the Kodak software iPhoto reads the pictures just fine and away we go. IMovie makes it just as easy take your video and edit and make really cool movies out of what you have shot on camera or camcorders. The word processing with pages works very well and there are other great free open source word processing programs for Mac like open office.

From ITunes to being able to bluetooth my Cel phone and quickly get all my contacts off address book has been great. My wife has been so impressed she now has a Macbook and we have a Mac mini at home.

Every area of the MacBook Pro has exceeded my expectations.

"Best Notebook I've had and great change from a PC" 2008-10-27
By Sebastian Beca (Santiago, Chile)
I must say that this is an excellent notebook. It's build is solid. I've traveled with it around the Chilean Patagonia and had no problems (be sure to have one of those nice silicon cases if it rains!). I've been a PC fan for the past 20 years and used Linux as an alternate to windows in many cases. But the MacOSX is really a nice operating system. If your going to spend many hours of your day in front of a computer, you'll really appreciate the aesthetics and usability of this Mac. The screen is the best I've ever seen.

Also, if you still need windows or Linux (you won't for the majority of apps), you can install Parallels or the excellent, and FREE, VirtualBox. Both work great with Windows and Linux (try Ubuntu).

As a computer scientist I'm seeing many MANY people making the switch from PC to Mac these days. Personally I'll be sticking to the mac for a long time!

Some downsides on this mac:

- Only 2 usb ports

- They keys quickly get shiny in high usage places and look opaque on others. (not too nice)

- Track pad right-click doesn't seem to work well sometimes.

(I hear those new large ones that work like the iphone touch screen are pretty awesome though)

If you're thinking about switching from a PC to this notebook, it's really a great option. No regrets at all.
